MMA or UFC? If UFC it depends. You have fighters like Krystof Sosynzki that fights on short notice and can fight 4-5 times a year, however most fight 2-3 times a year, possibly 4 if they are lucky. Outside of the UFC it depends. Eddie Alvarez has fought like 7 times in the past year.

It really depends on how long they fight too, because in the UFC they can get cut for a myriad of reasons. Couture is a longstanding fighter, and he has been there for like what…10 years?

Most of them don’t fight for quite a long time between there fights like , Forrest Griffin will fight in august and probably wont fight for the rest of the year but like the guy above there are some guys that take fights on short notice like kongo . There’s not a time limit to fight but if they fight like sh!t dana will get rid of them but if there fights are always exciting (the axe murderer) then you will be in the ufc for quite a bit of time.

Big name UFC fighter only fight 2-3 times a year. Lesser known fighters in other promotions generally fight more often. There are more and more young fighters these days with 20 or more professional fights on their record before their first UFC fight. And then there are people like Jeremy Horn with over 100 fights in 13 years.

Most fighters in the UFC fight 2-4 times a year. Fighters in smaller events don’t get paid as much, so they may fight more often to make up the money.

You rarely hear of successful MMA fighters retiring. Most haven’t even built up enough wins to get into the UFC in three years. Guys like Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock, who fought in UFC 1 back in 1993, will still take fights at other MMA shows. But most people will spend maybe five years or so in the UFC, depending on how successful they are.
