Question by Dom: Arguement about UFC – “Ultimate Fighter Compitiion TV Show”?
I’m having an arguement with a co-worker right now about the rules of UFC. I was watching the 2nd episode of The Ultimate Fighter last night during one of the elimnation matches the guy on the ground flat foot kicked the guy standing over him in the face 3 times straight.
The ref STOPPED that and informed the kid on the ground that “That was illegal you cant flat kick someone in the face while you’re on the ground -1 point”. My co-worker says that move IS allowed in UFC. My arguement back was there’s no way it can be otherwise the ref wouldn’t have stopped it from happening.
Someone PLEASE clarify, I read the rules on the UFC site but it doesn’t specify about THAT move. HELP!!

I know what UFC stands for, there is a reality TV show on the Spike Network TV Channel called “The Ultimate Figher Compition” 16 fighers live in a house for 3 and a half months fighting there way to the top.
The winner gets a UFC contract and a hopefully works up to getting a title shot.
Thank you for answering the question though, much appreciated.

If the person is STANDING over you, it’s legal to up-kick them in the face.
However, if the guy has even one knee on the ground, you cannot kick him in the face. Period. So even if you’re on you’re back and he’s on his knee(s), your feet cannot strike his face.
Yesterday, when the guy got penalized for upkicks, it was because his opponent had a knee or two on the ground.
What do you think? Answer below!

It’s legal in PRIDE, but not UFC.
If he’s standing over him he can kick him but otherwise he can’t.
Same in that episode where the guy tried to stomp on the guy while he was on the ground, you can’t do that in UFC, it has to be an ax kick.
You can’t kick a guy in the face if HE is on the ground. It has nothing to do with whether YOU are on the ground. In the case you’re talking about, the opponent “standing” over the kicker actually had a knee on the mat, so it was illegal to kick him in the head.
all of those guys are right. The guy he was kicking had at least one (but I think it was both) knees on the ground when the guy on his back kicked him in the face. UFC does not allow that. Only if your opponent is standing.
Upkicks are allowed to an opponent if the guy on top is standing on his feet, but kicks to the head are illegal for any opponent who is considered “down”, even if he is the fighter that is on top.
Simply its
Legal in PrideFC (Japan)
but not Legal in UFC (United States)
its illegal to do a “Soccer Kick”
The kick was illegal because the guy on top was on his knees, not standing. Kicks to the head of a grounded opponent (which according to the NSAC, means that any part of their body other than the soles of the feet are touching the mat) are illegal. If the other guy were on his feet, then the kicks would have been legal.
You usually see upkicks when one opponent is STANDING over their opponent, not on their knees.
For those saying things are legal in pride….there is no pride…not anymore…the rule states if an opp. is down(on a knee or their back) you cannot kick to the head, thus the upkick to an opp. on their knees or knee is illegal.
I’m pretty sure that up-kicks can only be preformed against standing opponets.
