www.youtube.com Buster Keaton in “Battling Butler”. The great Buster Keaton. The greatest physical comedian in cinema history. Buster Keaton Performing Stunts. Battling Butler is a 1926 comedy silent film directed by and starring Buster Keaton. Alfred’s father, portrayed as a rich aristocrat, feels his son has grown up way too easily and as a result has not turn out to be what a gentleman should be. To remedy this predicament he sends his son Alfred off on a hunting journey. On the trip, in the midst of many follies brought on by his inexperience with the outside, he meets a young mountain woman. Right after some initial friction he decides he has fallen in enjoy with her. Alfred’s butler, who has accompanied him on the outing, is sent to arrange the marriage with the girl’s father, who thinks Alfred is also weak to turn into a member of the family members. In an attempt to adjust the father’s thoughts, the butler tells the girl’s father and brother that Alfred is actually Alfred “Battling” Butler, promoted in the early morning newspaper as a specialist boxer. The deceptive explanation operates, and the father and brother of the mountain woman proudly organize a marriage ceremony. Comic mischief ensues as Alfred and his butler endeavor to make their recently fabricated story look plausible to the household of his new bride.

OMG this is great! This was one of Buster’s favorite films. The ‘blank pan’ as he called it, is on full display here. Love the little kick to his opponent. Isn’t he gorgeous here, and so wonderfully clueless? Love ya, Buster. I hope you’re jumping over everything in heaven. And ‘mascotofageneration’, you’re never too young to like this- I discovered Buster when I was in college and have LOVED him ever since. Thanks for posting!!

@Busterseyes – Agreed about your points. I saw the ending to “College” on TV when I was a boy, and even then I was expecting some sentimental ending. When I saw THAT ending, though, my mouth dropped way open – and I was laughing as well. After my experiences, I still laugh at it, but I recognize the truth behind it. Like you, I appreciate Keaton’s honesty. Yeah, that was MGMs doing, not Buster’s, for The “Cameraman” By then artisitic control over his films had been taken out of his hands.

Busterseyes November 29, 2011 at 21:58

@WSenator1

You’re right. Just when Keaton tends toward sentimentality he throws in a curveball like in the film “College” when he ends marrying the girl then there are scenes of them having children, then they appear as cranky old people and then the final tombstones scene. He could be pretty dark as times which I really liked about him. Although “The Cameraman” is pretty sweet for a Keaton film but some of that may have been MGM’s idea and not totally Buster’s.

Increíble Keaton. Un verdadero Maestro del humor. A las personas a las que no les gusta este vídeo es porque ya están medio muertas o algo por el estilo.
