I believe he’ll get past struve (struve is a great fighter btw) and maybe another fight until he can be a contender. It might sound crazy, but I think he could be a legit threat in the Heavyweight Div
Also I don’t ever see roy nelson drop to 205, especially if he wins some fights in HW

He was the former IFL heavyweight champion, so he has the tools to do so.
I would love to see him as a contender.
sure he can but the question is will he
No, i don’t seeing roy nelson as a contender for a few reasons, lesnar is making a comeback, mir is too much of a threat to him, kongo could knock him out, minataro is too versatile for nelson to do anything. nelson won the ifl title because all the best fighters were in the ufc, and the ifl doesnt exist anymore for a reason.
nelson doesn’t have what it takes to be a ufc champion. he couldn’t even beat kimbo without resorting to a lame curcifix with his stomach on kimbo’s face, doing no damage but staying busy so the ref wouldn’t reset it.
nelson won the TUF solely on the fact that he outweighed everyone on the show, and used the same move in 2 different fights.
nelson will have a few good fights but once he has to actually fight contending heavyweights who seek to move up in the ranks, he will just lose either by submission, knockout, or referee stopage. i don’t see any of his fights going all 3 rounds.
Roy Nelson was an IFL champion, but in order to be a threat in that division he’d have to get passed Frank Mir, Brock Lesnar, Nogueira, Shane Carwin, Gonzaga, Junior Dos Santos. Guys like that will be the guys I’d say he would never be able to beat. I can’t see him doing anything to any of those guys. Frank’s stand up is becoming lethal. Lesnar, well Lesnar is an NCAA champion and runner up. He has the tools to keep Roy from taking him down and if he likes he has the tools and the speed to defeat “Big Country.” Nogueira has taken on guys bigger than Roy, he defeated Bob Sapp and Nogueira is incredible with his BJJ. Carwin is another guy who I believe would simply dominate Roy. Carwin can TKO him with those heavy hands, he can ground and pound a victory if he wanted as well.
Here’s my other reason, Andre Arlovski KO’d him and while Arlovski is a bad a$$ HW fighter, Arlovski is not in the same league as Mir, Nog, Carwin, etc. I sincerely believe Roy will be no match for any of those top guys.
Cain is also coming into the top HW fighters and soon we’ll see what he can do, but taking down Roy is something I believe Cain can do and if he can do what he does best and ground and pound the guy I think roy will be massacred by the mexican wrestler.
Roy would have to get passed guys of those caliber which I don’t see him doing. I could see him doing pretty well though.
No, I think he is a disgusting fat body, who will stroke out while trying to make it there. The UFC is a whole different ballgame than the IFL, too many players with better talent. So unless he lays off the Oreo’s and whole milk and the all you can eat breakfast bar at Shoney’s, still no he will not.
Big Country’s real problem is that he has a heavyweight body on a frame.
Most of his fights, including in the IFL, have been using his big body on his opponent for a stoppage. He will win a few fights but never a HW Champ. He wont get past reall MMA guys like Mir, Lesnar, Velazquez, and maybe even Minotauro Noguera. But I guess only time can tell
Roy was a collegiate wrestler too. Just like Shane Carwin, Cain V. and even Brock Lesnar.
Roy was the IFL Heavyweight Champ, and I believe he beat Ben Rothwell.
I can see Nelson, beating Hague, Kongo, Carwin, Mir, and the match ups between NOG and Cain I think would be interesting as well as the spelling is bad Tauchstener.
Beating Lesnar? No. But on any given night anything is possible. James Buster Douglas KO’d Mike Tyson.
Bottom line is his frame is too small to be a successful heavyweight. He needs to drop a class and tone up. He could do well as a light-heavyweight. I think he is a very talented fighter, but he just can’t compete at heavyweight against the best.
Eventually his conditioning will catch up with him. You can’t carry around that much extra body fat and be truly healthy.
If he has to go 3 rounds with a top-tier guy, we’ll all see if he has any skills or has just been in a lot of second rate match ups.
Roy is a former IFL champion, TUF winner, & he also has a grappling win over Frank Mir. If win wins his next fight & gets a shot at a top contender & wins he most likely get a title match.
I don’t think he’ll ever hold the HW belt. He’s a good fighter and has a well rounded game, but he’s a guy who got handled by Andrei Arlovski. There are too many talented fighters in the UFC HW division who would give him problems. I think he could work his way up to contender status, but I don’t think he gets any further than that.
I also believe that Nelson will also get by Struve which could then set him up for a top heavyweight. He is experienced and a former IFL champ which will work to his advantage as he works his way up the HW ranks.
