I suggest gettin a root to start with. My friend did 5 years of wrestling before doing mma. I did martial arts before I started. It just helps u get in a good rhythm. Also start getting in shape like running and lift weights.

well look online for gyms in your area or the yellow book. i didnt have a clue how to fight or what kinds of workouts they did before i started and hell im about to go pro pretty soon now lol. just find a gym and start going. they will teach you everything you need to know. and some workouts to get your body started would be pull ups, alot of core workouts such as ab work and lower back, do many squats and jump rope alot. thats about all i do for my workouts

You need to go to an MMA gym. No matter how much stuff you do on your own, you need real training and a variety of training partners. Otherwise a kid with three months of BJJ training will submit you in half a minute.

If you don’t have any local MMA gyms, look for places that train full-contact striking and/or grappling. Martial arts include boxing, kick boxing, Muay Thai, submission wrestling, Catch wrestling, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Sambo, Judo, or even just high school wrestling.

If you have no background in athletics or martial arts… and I don’t mean you’ve won a streetfight or two, I mean a real martial art… then you should expect to take maybe a year before you get your first match. And you’ll be OK with that by then, because it takes most beginners at least that long to start to beat people in sparring.

You mean how to get some local fame and get chicks? Because from what I’m hearing from around the country is that these MMA teams have become roving “gangs” going into pubs and bars bullying people.

Which is more important? …… to stay true to your self or to be another vain, shallow self-centered yuppie kid that does MMA cage matches?

Stick to a traditional art form dude and be the best good guy you can. Keep a decent heart, because what you are on the inside is all you’ll ever be come judgement day when you’re standing tall before the Lord God Almighty.

These MMA people go and learn some high school and/or collegic wrestling mixed in with a couple of weeks worth of boxing and they become “self centered” monsters. Is that what you want out of life?

Check out a traditional martial art man …… don’t waste your time and money on becoming a vain, shallow, self-centered prick. There’s already a ton of those out in the world.

Here’s how it goes with MMA people http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXNroQ1-dWs although this is an attempt at humor this is exactly how I see a MMA practitioner attacking a traditional jujitsu student unknowingly.
