Why is it that 99% of the people who watch UFC are completly clueless to what PRIDE is? Recently at my school I have been notcing people barley ever heard of PRIDE yet they claim they have encyclopedia knowledge of MMA fighters and matches. Yes I am a PRIDE fan over UFC, but atleast I watch them both and have a good knowledge of both organizations. It’s kind of funny because when I tell people I like PRIDE fighting they would respond something like “REALLY? MAN UFC FIGHTERS WOULD DOMINATE PRIDE”, I even informed them about the heavy weights in PRIDE and Fedor Emelianenko and 99% of the people I tell them to they think Chuck Liddell would knock out Fedor first round. Why do all UFC fans think that PRIDE fighters are weak? When I tell people that Fedor or some other PRIDE champion dominates they usually think they are winning because they are crappy fighters. Even UFC fighters admit that some PRIDE fighters are very good. So why is all so called “MMA experts” so oblivious to MMA?
Thanks rim for being useless! Now please leave yahoo answers.
Thanks
Thanks Hoagie, I agree both organizations have their ups and downs. They both have great fighters. The thing that I don’t like though is everyone is very clueless when it comes to UFC. I like both, and I watch both. I used to think PRIDE had unbeatable fighters, then I started watching UFC and come to find out some of the people in the UFC were ex PRIDE fighters. I noticed a lot of UFC fighters and found out they were pretty damn good. I think it’s just that UFC is so much easier to watch because it’s from the USA and not from Japan. PRIDE and UFC is not for everyone but not matter how you look at it your not a MMA expert if you don’t know PRIDE,UFC,Pancrease,or Ring of the kings fighting. If people didn’t claim they knew much then I would understand but most don’t heh. My opinion would be the same if someone was one sided about PRIDE fighters, I would tell them to see the top UFC fighters.

Ignorance is bliss bro. Unlike you I enjoy UFC over pride. I do watch Pride when i catch it on tv. Both organizations have great things to offer. I would love to see the 2 promotions to come together agree on a set of rules and regulations and then we could see who really is the best of the best. The thing is the UFC is much more main stream then Pride so that what most people consider MMA they don’t realize that there is so much more out there when it comes to MMA. Until other organizations get there names out there more you are always going to find that.
I personally like both, but prefer UFC over pride. I feel like they hold their fighters to higher standards in and out of cage and as said before are more mainstream. My brother in-law is a fighter and has aspirations of being in the UFC because it is much more difficult to get in and stay in than Pride. My personal opinion….I just like the cage better than the ring.
Publicity plain and simple. With Pride going bankrupt and questions of organized criminal links that organization will likely fold. Don King is pushing the IFL so expect to see the great Pride fighters move to this league.
Coleman, Baroni and Wanderlie Silva all were UFC fighterers. It is an exciting sport that is only getting bigger. After Franklin got blown away, UFC talent is suspect. All are fun to watch.
They both have great fighters, i like both organizations, but its easier to watch the UFC since its in the USA. Silva, Barnett, Coleman, Baroni did well in the UFC, but they also lost. Now they are better fighters, any fighter can improve as long as they train smart and hard. Hopefully Cro Cop really does join the UFC and we will see if Tim Sylvia is good enough, also Rampage will be fighting with the UFC. Pride has better heavy weights, UFC has better Light Heavy weights, i also think better Middleweights
I agree with almost all of you. I like both. I will tell you exactly why The UFC, is just a little bit better…Pride has the most Horrible ring guy on the planet, my God, are the people in Pride DEAF. Now, The UFC has Bruce Buffer….big improvement…and the most important thing besides the fighters themselves…THE OCTAGON GIRLS….WOW , they are the finest girls in the world. If you disagree, you have not seen them….Thank you
Why do you care? Seems like you are just making excuses to flaunt your knowledge of a lesser known (in the US) promotion. One day everyone will know about PRIDE FC and you will be saying I KNEW IT FIRST.
GET OVER YOURSELF
Personally, I like both organizations. Heres the differences: elbows to the head = finishes g’n'p, completely unpadded, easier to use that close. Cage = less start and stop, pressing against the cage, lotsa action against the cage, more so than with ropes. Kicks and Stomps to the head = OMG, THAT SHIT IS THE CLOSER, you don’t see people laying down in pride, they get soccer kicked, plus if you sprawl you are set up for knees to head! 10 min first round = more first round finishes! less decision and saved by the bell.
Imagine a hybrid organization, that incorporates all the positives!!
PS PRIDE Heavyweights is probably better, but I’m hearing rumors on sherdog.com that Cro Cop signed with UFC thats a huge plus. I would CERTAINLY say UFC Welterweights are better and thats UFC’s best division.
The anwer is probably as simple as exposure. UFC has a lot more exposure being on spiketv. I am a fan of both but I have only seen PrideFC a couple of times on tv . They are not as widly available to watch as UFC without pay-per-veiw. If Pride was on regular tv more often I would probably be a bigger fan. You have to admit that Dana White has brought this sport more front and center with the American public and really expanded the fan base for MMA. PrideFC should really follow suit ,I’m sure they would get a lot more fans.
MMA is still growing, the UFC was the first big mma organization. Pride is growing and if you frequent mma sites like Sherdog most of their patrons prefer PRIDE. I think your problem lies in who you choose to talk to. Also you sound rather biased, Liddel did fight in PRIDE and was run over by those fighters, but that doesn’t mean he is a weaker fighter. I think you need to take a deep breath and try looking at things more objectively, and maybe try washing your mouth out with some soup buddy.
Pride doesn’t have the big money contract UFC has with Spike TV. I’m surprised at that too since they do have better caliber fighters. I mean look at it like this, you turn on Spike TV & they are promoting the hell outta UFC, if you’re lucky you might catch a mentioning of Pride on FSN but I feel it has more to do with the Asian busniessmen over in Pride not understanding how American businessmen work out these TV deals than anything else. The market is out there for Pride, they just need a better network to promote them to the Amercian public than FSN. My opinion, Pride should approach the Versus network and put them on the map like UFC did for Spike.
It’s all marketing man.
Pride has some great fighters in their stable, but loosing the Fuji TV contract over the yakuza rumors was a huge blow. Basically, if Pride can’t do well in their own backyard then they are not going to thrive outside Japan. I think it may be too late for Pride’s image in Japan. There are plenty of other promotions in Japan in the MMA vein that would love to grab Pride’s market share-Pancrease, shoot fighting, etc.
All true, but one thing that will help Pride is they are having more shows in the US now. That exposure will help educate the “UFCers”.
We need both. They are equally as competetive. Sure there are lots of Amercan tomato cans in UFC but there is a lot of Japanese tomato cans in Pride. I will agree that the UFC heavyweight division is a little weak, but they know it and have been trying to get CroCop and the light heavyweigth division kind of sucks because no one can compete with Liddell, but now they have Rampage so they are improving. But they are equals in the welter weight and middle weights divisions ,especially with Rush and diego. I thinks its cool we have 1 big amercian org and one big world wide org like pride, i hope it just gets bigger, with bigger fights and more fans and the fighters should cross over more to fight in the cage and vice versa.
Pride crossovers kill in UFC, which is why Pride is a better organization overall. Just look at Anderson Silva–takes the title in two fights. The rules are much tougher, and there isn’t any room to run in the ring, whereas there’s plenty of room to run in the octagon. That’s why Chuck Lidell has so much success backing away and throwing bombs. He got dominated on multiple occassions in Pride because he couldn’t use that strategy. Pride allows kicks and knees to the head on the ground and fights aren’t stopped from cuts by elbow, so one must continue taking blows without any chance of quick victory from cut by elbow.
Pride is going to be overrun by UFC, though. UFC has greater popularity in the United States and Pride is fast losing sponsership and some of its best fighters (A. Silva, Q. Jackson, M. Crocrop, etc.), which means we’ll being seeing morePride fighters in UFC and less Pride in general.
Pride rules are still killer though, and I’m sad to see it start to fail.
