Question by ♪Viva♫Joe♫Strummer♪: Would “Yahoo Answers: Boxing” be a lot better if the Pacquioa fans were also boxing fans?
We just had an interesting and controversial fight saturday, and the majority of the questions here are about a hypothetical fight. Are the Pac fans doing the sport of Boxing a grand disservice?
Best answer:
Answer by Jose Martinez
I am not trying to disrespect ANYONE here, but I feel that this section would be much better if there were more knowledgeable boxing fans here. It is good to see that some people who came here only as Pacquiao fans have become full-time boxing fans, but, sadly, not all of them have decided t follow the sport, which makes for a rather poor boxing forum. I am not being disrespectful whatsoever, just pointing out the obvious.

no hes doing it a great service. people just need to understand hes not invincible
Some Pac fans go over the limit. I remember 3 years ago this boxing section had a lot of variety. Now all I see is “Pacquiao Mayweather”.
They’re not doing boxing a disservice, maybe a disservice to Yahoo Answers: Boxing, in terms of it’s variety of topics covered. I think Pac fans are great for boxing as a whole. All though I agree with you a lot of Pacquiao fans are not boxing fans, simply Pacquiao fans, but there are a lot of boxing fans that are Pacquiao fans.
Pacquiao and his fans have had a great affect on the revitalization of the sport. Some of them are not into the sport as much as maybe you or I, but I think we need the mainstream fan to be interested in the sport for it to thrive. Boxing fans that follow the sport know how great Saturday night was for boxing, but you really just have to hope that some of the people that started watching just to see Pacquiao, continue watching for new up and coming fighters like Andre Ward, Chad Dawson, Nonito Donaire, Saul Alverez, etc. Hopefully boxing can get back to where it once was.
Yes. It’s got that bad that I’m actually not surprised by some of the stuff they come out with. When you see someone ask a thoughtful and interesting question such as “Jack Johnson vs Joe Louis” and then see a Pacquio “fan” inadvertently disrespect it with something like “pac wud nock dem both out wit one pucnh” or “Pacquiao would win” as an answer it just makes you sigh.
It does get very tiresome when you get the same questions over and over, “Mayweather vs Pacquiao”, we must get it at least 10 times a day. To be fair, it’s not just the Pacquiao fans that are guilty of it.
The biggest issue I have with most of them is that you can’t say anything negative (or potentially negative) about Pacquiao without being branded a “Pac-hater”, jealous, bitter or a racist. It’s like a lot of them want this forum to be renamed “The Manny Pacquiao appreciation forum”. Every fighter has flaws so why should it be a sin to air your opinion or suspicions on Pac’s?
I’ve got no problem with Pacquiao fans as such, and I can’t resent it if they only follow and support Manny Pacquiao, that’s their prerogative, my problem starts when they diss other fighters and members of the forum without feeling the need to justify why. By all means, air your grievances on a fighter, but at least give a rational explanation for it.
To be honest one of the reasons i wanted Cotto to win is that i knew that this site would be swamped with an influx of Pacquiao “fans”, I welcome the ones that wish to discuss Pacquiao, boxing and show respect, but sadly it seems that they are few and far between.
This has to be one of the most logical questions that this section has seen since Nov. 14th. It annoys like a motherfcker, but what can we do? I’m just glad we haven’t seen “Ali vs Pacquiao” or “Pacquiao vs Tyson”. haha
I just honestly hope this dies down soon, that’s why I’m looking forward to back to back December weekends with the Williams-Martinez & Diaz-Malignaggi II fights.
Pac fans are great….Pac-maniacs are annoying. Just like all sports, you have fans who have their favorite teams, but obviously their judgements are skewed…this is nothing new. Just like every sport, you have fans who are fanatics and are overly obnoxious. Let’s be clear that NOT all Pac fans are Pac-maniacs, but I don’t see them any MORE annoying than Mayweather Nut-huggers. Take any athlete, sport, etc. and you have fans then you have nut huggers…there’s a major difference.
Yahoo answers boxing site is a lot less fragile then you guys seem to think. It’s not threatened by bigotry on the part of it’s users, nor does any one group of fans have the ability to impact on it one way or another. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, no matter how controversial or how much others may disagree with them. I think Pacquiao fans are a positive influence on the site. There is no difference between the huge number of fans Manny has generated and say the impact Duran had on Panama or Chavez had on Mexico. This is a great service to the sport of boxing, not a disservice. A few individuals may push the bounds of propriety, but vast majority of people who use Yahoo answers boxing site impact positively not negatively. Those who are negative are in truth at best a minor irritant and no real threat to the site itself, and certainly have no impact on the sport of boxing. I think the majority of Pacquiao fans are boxing fans, they just happen to support and root for Manny over the rest of the sports participants. No big deal, and certainly not a negative.
Elmer my friend…they are definitely making things look bad around here. We get maybe 5 replies on an intelligent question regarding other fighters, but the moment a Pac fan ask a question regarding Pacquiao, they come out the woodworks with replies….they even accuse people of being racist and fake accounts….
It’s sad….
Agree %100 with everyone above me
What makes you think you’re right? You probably betted for dela Hoya and Cotto because your boxing knowledge think so.
Nah, everything is great the way that it is. Boxing is doing great!
the reason why there is popular interest in boxing is because of pacquiao fans.
there has not been this much interest in boxing in years. saying that boxing will be a lot better without the pacquiao fans is like saying it’s better not to have anyone get interested in boxing except the very few hardcore fans (the boxing geeks).
this is the kind of attitude that brings boxing out of popular interest.
are you guys afraid of the “outsiders”?
don’t worry, when pacquiao retires… i will retire from boxing too… and maybe some other people whose opinions you don’t like; and all 3 or 5 of you guys with multiple accounts can enjoy this forum again.
You have a great and valid point and i am in total agreement with what you “Dave” , “Jose Martinez” & “The Letter B” says . Nobody can take it away from Pacquioa or Mayweather that they are brilliant boxers , but enough is enough why not talk about the sport . When i read some of the answers given by the Pacquioa “CLONES” i realize how little they know about the sport . You even have one that kids on he is a professor and leaves stupid anecdotes after each answer he makes , the same guy does not know boxing at all and struggles with well known fact’s about Sugar Ray Robinson .
Not to long ago this was a well respected forum, but your point and other issues has ruined the fluidity of the debating qualities .
Well maybe it would have helped if someone had thought to show those fights in the Philippines. I’ve had had to really dig deep into YouTube and other sources to find fights I want to see.
We (Filipinos) just love Pacman VERY MUCH! (period!!)
You can’t do anything about it if we’re so excited about his fights.
