Rich Franklin Knocks the Iceman (Chuck Liddell) Out Cold
The two men jumped into the ring ready to fight. Both were fighting for their careers. Franklin lost his championship to Anderson Silva and Liddell has been knocked out more times than he would want to remember. Chuck Liddell did everything he could to take the fight to Rick Franklin. He kicked him, he punched him, and he took him down to the mat. Franklin used his speed and youth to counter Liddell. The fight was even until it ended. chuck Liddell shoots at Franklin. Rich Franklin blocks the shoot and hits Chuck Liddell with a quick right. Liddell falls out cold on to the canvas. Rich Franklin lands two more unnecessary punches before the ref finally stops the fight.
Sad for Liddell, he is getting used to tasting the canvas. Liddell has lost five of his last six fights. He has been knocked out in four of them and has been decisioned in the other fight to Keith Jardine. Chuck Liddell is still a great fighter. He has just lost a step which is bad news in the UFC. Chuck Liddell is all speed, timing, and power. He has lost his speed, which affects his timing, and makes him taste the power of the other fighter. Liddell has been one of my most favorite UFC fighters. His loss in UFC 115 to Rich Franklin proves my point. Chuck Liddell needs to seriously consider retirement.
Rich Franklin did not come out of this victory unscathed. His arm was broken by one of Chuck Liddell’s powerful head kicks. Franklin blocked the kick and broke his arm.
