Shockwave 2002 Opening – WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY

by MasterBlaster on May 7, 2010

August 28, 2002 – Stephen Quadros and Bas Rutten at the height of their collaborative powers, opening the pay-per-view broadcast of the 2002 “Shockwave” show (known in Japan as “Dynamite”), with special guest Bill Goldberg. This was the only time that all three Japanese martial arts superpowers of the era, K-1, Pride and Antonio Inoki, shared top billing and co-promoted a major event together. The result: an estimated 91000 people attended the event at Japan National Stadium. Bouts featured (then) PRIDE FC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira, 4-Time K-1 champion Ernesto Hoost, Pride FC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva, Japanese superstar Kazushi Sakuraba, 3-Time UFC champion Royce Gracie, Bob Sapp, 2-Time UFC champion Don Frye, 3-Time King of Pancrase and future K-1 legend Semmy Schilt, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and many more. K-1 chairman Kazuyoshi Ishii, Jiu Jitsu icon Helio Gracie and the man who fought Muhammed Ali, Japan’s most enduring pro wrestler, Antonio Inoki at various moments presided over the extravaganza.

stephen quadros, you are the man of mma commentating.

willyj33 May 7, 2010 at 18:16

Rutten and Quadros were definitely the best mma commentators, in my opinion a lot better than joe rogan and mike goldberg.

I’m only sad i never got to see this event when it happened. I’ve caught some of the fights here on youtube. What an amazing card it was culminating in an amazing main event between Cro Cop and Mr. Sakuraba.
