Should MMA fighting include elbow pads?

by MasterBlaster on April 27, 2010

I love MMA fighting. I used to be a boxing fan but I’m now a total convert.

However, I think they should perhaps consider the contestants required to wear an elbow pad. I see too many fighters get cut by elbows.

What do you think?

Your definately American :)

No they shouldnt be wearing elbow pads. Getting bloody is part of the deal. If they can’t take it, don’t take part in it. There are rules to limit the risk of serious injury during a fight. Leave it at that.

No way, its part of the sport and the fighters know this, thats why your not a mma fighter

Cutting someone with an elbow is an acceptable way to stop the fight. And it’s not like these are lethal blows. Boom, you get cut, you get some stitches, you’re good to go. So no, I disagree with you.

Elbow pads are a problem because they can get grabbed or moved up and down. You can elbow someone in a real fight, I think they should stay legal.

Terrible idea.

How would that work? They’d either be too loose and come off all the time, or be too tight to prevent cuts.
