The MMA Analyst Reviews: UFC 111

by MasterBlaster on May 17, 2010

Middleweight Rousimar Palhares, who defeated Tomasz Drwal via heel-hook, was suspended 90 days for failing to release the hold. The dangerous lock, which can quickly cause serious damage to the knee of a competitor, is often banned in lower-level competitions. Palhares latched on to Drwal and cranked hard even as the Polish slugger tapped repeatedly. Palhares had to be pried off of his foe by referee Kevin Mulhall before finally releasing the hold. Drwal, who was moaning in agony following the maneuver, is suspended indefinitely pending an X-ray of his left knee and ankle. Damn!

After listening to your review of the GPS and A. Silva fights you seem to have a double standard for the two fighters. GSP needs to do more while A. Silva just needs to win and owes no one anything. I wish you the best but really miss the knowledge, insight, and commentary of doliveij.

“Did I ask too many rhetorical questions, all being self answered? YES!”….pause……

Damondeeh20 May 18, 2010 at 01:02

this guys knows his shit not some newbie fan like some.

GBDazzler May 18, 2010 at 01:52

palhares has no money, he has just for the first time bought a car last year, has been screwed mulitple times out of sub of the night bonus’, he gets shit fights which are tough yet useless in promoting him, then they suspend and fine him for holding a sub as long as bj did on jens? Bullshit, they just don’t want him tearing up the division, because lets face it there is no-one at 185 that can stop his shot and if they can’t stop the takedown they’re gonna be in trouble.

eon001 May 18, 2010 at 02:47

@doliveij I like ‘em short and sweet. The new format’s a good look.

DexterShawn May 18, 2010 at 03:40

Time for UFC to ban Anderson Silva from the 185 division and move him up to 205

judaschongo May 18, 2010 at 03:41

@gary83uk yeah I know it affects multiple joints and possibility of serious ligament damage are there; but here’s some breaking news: Drwal is OK nothing happened!

judaschongo May 18, 2010 at 04:20

@mygerbilsaninja and you sir are a pederast; what’s with the reference to “kiddy porn”? maybe some latent repressed desire.

as for realeasing the minute the ref got there, he practically did; maybe just a second or 2 after. Is that really any worse than Hendo following up on the vicious KO of Bisping?

What like you’ve been put in a “deep heel hook” as you say? by someone the likes of an explosive Palhares? LOL!

judaschongo May 18, 2010 at 04:51

@doliveij that’s the point it’s pointless! is it any worse than Hendo clearly following up on Bisping after being KO’d?

@wwashing3

Hey,

Thanks for the compliments. the vids are shorter for 2 reasons. 1. The quality is really lost when too long. Trying to compress 30 mins to under 100MB is a challenge. 2. There are some developments in the wings. The Podcast will be back soon and much improved.

Lastly, regarding the UFN21, whoops!

Thanks again! Father? damn. Sounds so, grown.
:)

where the diddly dang doo doo is the ufc 112 prediction video? 0 :

DrOnline82 May 18, 2010 at 08:16

@judaschongo
Heel hook applies torque to the knee, and Palhares intentionally kept cranking it well after the ref called him off. There are videos of him having done this in the past as well, so the 90 day suspension is a joke. He should be suspended for 2x the time it takes for the other fighter to recover.

gary83uk May 18, 2010 at 08:30

@judaschongo lol, do you even know what a heel hook is? it does cause damage to the knee.

mygerbilsaninja May 18, 2010 at 09:20

@judaschongo you sir are a moron, the punishment is not severe at all, he should have released the submission the second the referee waved him off, he disrespected the sport and tried to cause injury he’s lucky at all to be able to compete in the top echelon of MMA fighters and obviously you have never been put in a deep heel hook, so kill yourself and continue crying and jerking off to kiddy porn

lawndogmoon May 18, 2010 at 09:24

@judaschongo Heel hook torques the ankle. When the ankle is torqued in this matter the knee is torqued as well. The most common injury from a heel hook is torn knee ligaments. Your post is “bile.”

@KyleMusicMan Quote from Kevin Lole (Sports Writer @ Yahoo Sports).

“Im not sure why the UFC continues to list Carwin at 6-5, which is ridiculous. Hes 6-1. That said, Brock is not going to blow through him. Lesnar may well win, but its a tough fight. Carwin has never fought anyone like Lesnar before, but Lesnar has never fought anyone like Carwin, either. ”

Like I said, same height as myself.

vespaman101 May 18, 2010 at 10:51

@gzeuskraiste no he was probably really zoned in and he let go once the referee tapped him. when ur really into it u dont let go and yeah it is comparable but im taking ur not a wrestler so its beyond ur understanding. wut he did was not to damage his opponent on a long term. i think its quite ridiculous how they suspended him. he let go once the refree tapped on him and that shuld be good enough.

gzeuskraiste May 18, 2010 at 11:18

He didn’t know the ref saw it when the ref came running in? The ref grabbed his arm to try to break the hold and he still didn’t let go.

Of course there is a risk of injury when you pin someone, but if you crank a heel hook past the slightest degree it is basically inevitable. They aren’t comparable.

vespaman101 May 18, 2010 at 11:49

actually that really happens and ive seen it. i know moves that can fracture ur ribs just to get the pin. but if he let go too early and the ref didnt see it or call it the guy culda bullshit and act like he didnt tap. thats just how u learn to do this so dont wtf me. i know wut im talking about. he just had to make sure he got the damn tap and the ref calls it he let go once the refree called so i think wut he did is understandandable and not deserving a suspension

gzeuskraiste May 18, 2010 at 12:34

wtf..do you know what a submission is, or what a heel hook can do? When was the last time somebody submitted to a pin in wrestling? When was the last time somebody required surgery due to being pinned in wrestling?

rhyno514 May 18, 2010 at 13:02

@gespilk lol u dont even know how 2 spell the guys name and they show it so many times c’mon
