I would imagine a basic cover your a$s physical. Blood, urine, ekg and basic physical exam. Are you near the big show?

you can’t just jump in the cage and call your self a a UFC fighter just because you think you can bop, there isn’t much in the way of health require exept any kind of blood disease like rabies, HIV and Hep. But unless you can have some real skill and know how to fight standing up and on the ground your going to end up with some serious medical issues. i bet it was the movie “Never Back Down” really trigger this goal but just remember it’s a moive

I don’t know for sure. I would besides whatever the requirement is get a very thorough Physical exam. I’m sure that licensing in some states requires a physical exam.
Sorry I can’t resist saying get your head examined.
If your sure that is what you want train like your life depends on it.

First and foremost would be to get cleared for athletic activity from your Doctor.

Go to him and explain that you want to get involved in Combat sports and can they do a work up for you. They will check your heart, general physical stuff, and do blood work. Ensure you do the extra paperwork for HIV and Sexually Transmitted diseases.

Not only is this good information for MMA, but good information in general if you have been sexually active. You can really piss a bunch of dudes off, if they see you sporting Herpes up at the gym, since it is contagious with contact.
Part of most medical waivers for MMA schools states that you acknowledge that you are free from infectious diseases.

Then as you get trained and get into it, you eventually turn pro and have to get a medical check by the a doctor approved by the licensing board or the athletic commission of which you are fighting under.

Lots of medical checks go on throughout your fighting career. Essentially you have to get medically cleared before every fight, and then checked out after every fight.

Not to mention most every place drug tests now, which is usually a urine and a bloodwork test.

It is a lot to get into really. You get used to being a pin cushion, get used to the whole turn your head and cough thing, prodded, thumped, public urination, etc.

If you have a medical history of something you feel could be standing in your way, it may just be impossible. But if it is something like a simple injury, or past injury, it isn’t a big deal. Somethings you can get past, like Staph infections, ringworm, etc. All those are temporary things.

But if you have HIV, Hepatitus, Heart Conditions, a prexisting brain condition, or some other permanent medical problem that by competeting at high level athletics could put your life, or other’s long term health at risk, then it probably isn’t a reality for you.

Hope that helps, good luck!
