Was there a UFC fighter or boxer who refused to fight?

by MasterBlaster on March 21, 2010

I remember seeing fairly recently a UFC fight, or possible a boxing match where one of the fighters simply refused to fight. When the round ended, he would pace around and his eyes were whelling with tears. I remember it being a fairly popular fighter too, it was almost as if he realized that day he didn’t want to fight anymore. Does this ring a bell to anyone? If so, who was it and where did it happen?

That does sound a little like the Griffin/Jardine fight. I did hear that he was really devastated after the fight, but Forrest has never been one to back down and not make an attempt. Probably is a boxing match you’re thinking of.

I don’t think his eyes’ were whelling with tears, but the only fight that comes to mind was Kalib Starnes vs. Nate Quarry. Starnes just ran around the octagon trying to avoid all physical contact with Quarry until the final round was over. Needless to say he was let go of very soon afterwards.

I want to say that this pay per view fight was in England.

It was UFC, and unfortunately the gentleman you’re referring to is my favorite fighter who usually destroy’s everyone.

BJ Penn refused to come out for the 5th round against GSP.

GSP was covered in vaseline and BJ felt helpless, so he quit after the 4th. It kind of broke my heart, but he seems to have bounced back from it by completely dominating Top Contender Kenny Florian last weekend.
