What happens if a UFC champion lost his belt?

Not by defeat, but by something dumb like loosing it at a picnic. Or if he left it at a beach or something. Will he get a new one? Does he have to pay?

As there is not precedent for this I am going to assume they tick a bunch of people off and have to pay for a new one as the belt is not actually theirs

never has happened that ive heard of but you all probily have heard the story of other championships IE the stanly cup that has stories of being left on side of the road to the story that it once got sunk in new york harbor. so id assume they buy a new one and go hush hush.

im sure theres a back up belt, it’ll be stupid and hilarious and embarrasing to the ufc if say silva showed up in a title defence without his belt, suppose silva lost what does his opponent get .. a cookie?
