What happens when a UFC fighter fails to make weight?

Also, what happens if it was a championship match, hypothetically.
If machida failed to make weight at 205 for Shogun, and vise versa.

It wouldnt be a title bout. For instance when Matt Hughes was going to defend his belt against Joe Riggs, but Riggs failed to make weight. So Matt Hughes okayed the fight though, but it would make a non title matchup.

A number of things can happen. The fighter that did make weight has the choice to allow the fight or call it off. The fighter that failed to make weight can sometimes have to forfeight some of his purse to the other fighter. Title fights have to be fought at the weight no exceptions.
