What is the best combination of Martial Arts for fighting in MMA?

by MasterBlaster on May 21, 2010

Anderson Silva uses his Muay Thai & BJJ to devastating effect. Rampage does pretty well with his Boxing & Wrestling. What do you think are the 2 best Martial Arts combinations to have in MMA?

MuayThai and BBJ is a good combination, but Anderson Silva is also a good striker / boxer. I’d say to be good you need to excel in 1 or 2 disciplines, but be competent in many others as to counter all various situations.

well if you can get to a elite level of boxing you have a huge advantage. Reason being is no mma fighter today can even come close to the acuracy of a top 10 boxer in the wba or wbc.. So one day if someone could put a good 3 years of training in the boxing ring with a good trainer and then after that go and train with a top mma team then you would have a dangerous fighting game. But I dont think thats ever going to happen. So i would say BOXING AND JUJITSU.

Whatever works for the martial artist. There is no best, only best to the individual.

Lyoto likes to do Karate, and Ju jitsu. I think thats a pretty sick combination

Honestly, others have said it, and it bears the most truth.

The best combination depends on the fighter, there is no best combination, it is what works for you and how you can modify things to suit your personal style and then utilize that style effectively.

Questions like this are a waste of time. Judomofo has a good answer. Pay attention to it and learn.

I think you hit it on the mark. Muay Thai and BJJ is the classic formula to creating the well rounded MMA fighter. and if you already have grappling you look for Muay Thai and vice and versa. It’s the easy way to cover an aspect of the fight. the only problem is that there are too many of MT and BJJ fighters out there now. You start to become predictable and readable.

it depends on the practitioner and how skills / knowledge are applied. There is no ‘Best’ combination that works for any person that steps into the octagon/ring.
