What is the best mma fighting style to learn?

by MasterBlaster on March 24, 2010

I’m trying to find a gym that will teach mma but i don’t know which is best if there even is a variety. Trying to find a gym or something that will teach u how to take a hit, unlike in karate where they just teach u blocks but once u get hit everything u learned is out the door

Muay Thai is a pretty popular MA that teaches effective and punishing striking. Utilizing punches, elbows, knees, and kicks

Most MMA gyms will teach several different styles. The popular ones are Western boxing, Muay Thai (kickboxing style from Thailand), Brazilian Jiujitsu (style that focuses on wrestling and groundfighting), Judo (Japanese wrestling style known for it’s throws), and submission wrestling.

Even if you can’t find an MMA gym, it’s likely you’ll be able to find at least one place that teaches a style or two listed above.

… you prefer not to block and keep getting hit?
karate you learn to block but if you go to a decent karate schol you should be able to take a hit and keep fighting. if everything goes outt he door after being hit you obviously are not very good.

muay thai kickboxing is used lots and is common in mma, utilizing knees, kicks, punches and elbows.
brazilian jiu jitsu is great considering every mma fight will most likely go to the ground.and wrestling is great to get to the ground but brazilian jiu jitsu would help more wrestling would be for you to utilize whatever else you know in a fight.

all these are great martial arts.

Only learn blocks? Once you get hit everything is out the door? Boy where did you get your view of martial arts.

Maybe you should learn respect before you learn anything else. You just insulted an entire eastern nation’s art. Judo and JuJitsu might as well suck to, huh?

Mixed martial arts just means that they teach the bits and pieces that they think are cool from real martial arts. I assure you that you are mistaken about Karate. Kyokushin Karateka are well known for their extremely high tolerances for pain and their toughness. If Karate (a real martial art) doesn’t work, then how do you expect MMA (a sport… just like golf) to work? If “once u get hit everything u learned is out the door”, then what good would MMA do? It’s just a wannabe martial art. Don’t worry about what style of MMA to take… They all suck equally.

there is no best!

okay. imagine if a MUAY THAI and a BRAZILIAN JUI JITSU fights!
in stand up muay thai guy would crus the brazilian jui jitsu guy!
but in the ground the muay thai guy will get submitted!

so theres no best!

perfect combination is Muay Thai and Jui Jitsu!
