ITS ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE YOUR OWN GEAR. CHECK OUT ringside.com everlast.com title.com and search for grant gloves also.

Believe me, join a boxing Gym and learn the correct way to hold your hands, elbows, stand, move, feint, etc. I boxed since I was 8 and I wear out equipment in weeks at the most. Everlast should be called Neverlast… it’s gone so far down hill. Don’t invest in their equipment outside of wraps and gloves. I personally like Grants better.

Get yourself some hand wraps, a groin guard and possibly gloves. Wait on the gloves, til you find a gym.

One piece of unsolicited advice: When you go into the gym, no matter how fast your triple left hook and how hard your right cross, don’t brag. Be humble and willing to learn and no one will humiliate you. Believe me, I could be a monster on the playground, street, night club, but I’ve been incredibly humbled with broken noses and loads of non-reparable injuries in gyms.

You’ll need 14-16 ounce training gloves and handwraps just for standard training. If you’re going to be sparring, you’ll want additional 18 ounce sparring gloves, headgear, and a groin protector.

The gym rents gloves but oh my god, never use them. They’ve been used hundreds of times before by different people and just…yuck.

Ringside is the only brand I vouch for or recommend when it comes to boxing gear in general. The only thing I dislike about Ringside is that their customer service is horrible and their shipping is contracted through UPS. It’s a horrid company that produces excellent products.

The brands you’ll want to avoid at all costs are Everlast, Title, Combat Sports, Century, or anything else that is not Ringside, Cleto Reyes, Winning, or Grant (the only thing good that Grant produces is their “Professional” line of gloves, no other products). Everlast and Title make horrible products in general and are dishonest. They are two sides of one coin, as their products are manufactured, stored, and sold out of the same factory. They sell cheap (and often previously used), half-assed products at 10x the value and are very dishonest and corrupt. You’ll order an item when it’s on sale and they’ll confirm that the item is indeed on sale, but they’ll bill you for the standard item price without telling you, etc. Everlast was known as one of the best manufacturers of boxing products in the 80′s, but times have changed. The company name is nothing as it once was, and Title is the same way. Some will say that only their lower-end stuff is garbage, but it’s the same with even their higher-end stuff as well.

If I were you, I’d opt for Ringside gloves, and if you are willing to throw a little extra money out, go for some Cleto Reyes gloves or Grant (like I said, only Grant’s “Professional” line of gloves is good, their other products suck). Hope I helped you out.

All the best.
