Who else is slightly irritated by the presumptions about Chuck Liddell?

by MasterBlaster on June 19, 2010

I know he’s lost his last 3 fights & he got KO’ed by Rich Franklin last night @ UFC 115, but why does everyone keep saying this is probably Liddell’s last fight when he himself hasn’t said he’s retiring yet?

His fighting prowess has been slowly declining over the years, and he’s basically done as a fighter. Even though he was amazing, and is still in great shape, he’s developed a glass jaw and is past his prime. He wanted one last chance, was given it, and lost. Dana was reluctant to give him this fight to begin with, so its safe to safe Chuck will never fight in the UFC again.

Because he doesn’t decide. Dana White decides and you can look on Yahoo!’s homepage, there is an article about it.

with couture scheduled to fight again in the ufc and sakuraba fighting in dream and coleman and shamrock rumored to be fighting later this year, you can never count on someone retiring, unless due to some physical condition such as Guy Mezger’s semi-stroke.

Chuck Liddell is the single most profitable and popular fighter the UFC has ever had. Although i have never really be a fan. Alot of people really like to watch the guy fight. And you can check the pro’s pick on sherdog for Chucks last 3 fights and you will see that no matter how bad Chuck has been looking that no one will ever count him completely out. Dana likes to market Chuck as the greatest UFC champion in history. If Dana continues to let Chuck fight and Chuck keeps getting ruined then it makes Chucks legacy look bad and makes the UFC look bad

Just because he may want to continue fighting doesn’t mean Dana will keep him. He has declining skills and before this fight Dana thought he wasn’t taking fighting and training seriously. Yes he took this fight seriously and was in great shape but he still got knocked out in the 1st round.

Don’t get disappointed about such issue being raised in this place, they had the rights to thrown out their assumptions about recent development on Chuck Liddell career, he has big heart the way he fights and even if he get lost we are still hoping to see him on the octagon, but as of now, we just remain observant if what will be the next move he will do with due reasons.

People has no contentment even if he win, they will still judge him because we are being born to say our own thoughts, especially in this place which being guided and govern by those community guidelines.

Good luck

I think it is wish full thinking on most people’s parts. Fighters are the last to realize when it is time to quit and people don’t want Chuck to be a punching bag and get his brains scrambled now that he seems to have lost the ability to remain conscious when a stiff breeze catches his chin. Look at an interview with Evander Holyfield from the mid 90s and then one from this year, giving Evander a license to fight should be a frickin felony, but he still thinks he will be undisputed champion of the world. I and many others don’t want to see Lidell in that same shape.

I wish he would fight forever, but the fact is did you see last night’s KO on him? he got tapped in the face and it was the end. It wasn’t a hard punch or even a good hit, it was a tap. there is no way dana white will even let him fight Tito Ortiz after that. Dana loves Chuck to death and wont risk his health so chuck can get 1 more win under his belt. If chuck had a chin he would have dominated Rich like he did the entire fight last night.

Because he thought that his last fight was going to be his last…he had to beg Dana to give him one more shot. This is his third first round knockout loss in a row, he’s done. Even if he doesn’t want to give up quite yet, he’s finished…

Dana White last night made it official that Chuck’s fight with Rich will be his final one. He makes the decision because he is the usually the guy that cuts the fighters. Aside from that, while I’m no fan of Chuck’s I do admit he did a lot for MMA. His jaw is done. He can’t take a punch at all. He’s even gotten worse. Chuck fought this guy named Jose Landi-Jons and took a kick to the side of the head and got right back up. If you see the power of that kick vs some of the punches that have put him out you would be in shock. Rich’s punch had maybe 1% of the power Jons kick had. Aside from that, his reaction is much slower. This is problematic for a fighter for obvious reasons. Some guys just don’t age well. look at Shamrock, Frye, Mezger, these guys were very top quality fighters in their time. Chuck just aged badly. His personal life must have some influence over it because from what I hear Chuck was a big party guy. You can only imagine the troubles he had. And while I am uncertain of them, partying many times can have a bad influence on a person’s body.

Chuck tried to get back to his old regimine and workout intensely and it showed from his more ripped body but it’s his slower reaction and his propensity to being knocked out so easily that has killed him as a fighter.

Although I am no fan of him as a fighter, I would never disrespect someone like him for the things he did for the sport. Guys like him, Couture, Coleman, Shamrock will always have my respect for bringing in a sport that I love.

At this point it outside his hands, he had an understanding with Dana White that if he lost the Rich Franklin fight he would retire. Dana White tried to get Chuck to retire before but Chuck convince him for one more fight. Well Dana White now said Chuck has fought his last fight in the UFC.

It is really time to look at his career retrospectively. I would always remember as the MMA legend and not the empty shell he is now. http://bit.ly/aAr2y2
