Why are the NFL champions called “World Champions” when clearly, the NFL only includes US teams?

Why are the NFL champions called “World Champions” when clearly, the NFL only includes US teams? Is this just another display of American pride or ignorance.

can you name any other countrys team that could beat them? cause i cant, its facts…who the hell will beat them, we are elite football country, just as canada to hockey, england to soccer, japan to…making video games, its just facts

Because the Pakistan Pumas, Jakarta Birds, Hiroshima Bombers, Kiev Tigers, and Sydney Jackalopes did not manage to beat the Colts.
