Will the popularity of MMA create a culture of arrogant macho bullies that pick random fights?

by MasterBlaster on April 4, 2010

I can’t imagine what MMA is going to do for the bar/club scene. That scene already has enough drunk belligerent idiots.

no u obviously dont kno anything about mma its not about random fighting its not even a macho thing how about u go do sum research before asking a ignorant question

Hombre April 4, 2010 at 13:43

It’s the same people who used to get drunk and say “I’m a black-belt I’ll beat you up” If they weren’t real representatives of martial arts back then, what makes you think they’re real representatives of mma today.
Your high-horse come down off it.

Ryan April 4, 2010 at 14:04

I do not think so, only the people that haven’t been trained to fight.
Martial arts is the study of discipline and respect. When training you learn that the best fight is not a fight at all and not to go looking for a fight. Competition on the other hand is different and a test of ones skills.

I doubt MMA will have any effect on that type of non-sense at all, but if anything it will probably decrease it.

See all the meat-heads that used to pick fights at the clubs and bars that started learning MMA have an outlet now….

And generally those types of people don’t go far in MMA, but the number of fights will probably still decrease because they’ll just lose confidence when they get manhandled by career fighters half their size, and they’ll be afraid to pick a fight with the wrong person at the bar and get embarrassed.

Arrogant Macho bullies will always be Arrogant Macho bullies. But when they pick on someone who they think cannot defend themselves and get caught in an arm bar they will think twice about doing it again

Only the posers with predisposed aggressive tendencies

SO FREEEESH :) April 4, 2010 at 15:25

i dont get why people make mma seem like this barbaric sport. Boxing is the same thing if anything worse in my opinion. These guys beat each others brains in until one cant stand anymore. I dont think it will have any effect on the bar/club scenes most fighters (serious fighters) dont fight outside of the gym because its pointless and dangerous.

Shihan J April 4, 2010 at 16:20

they dont need mma or any other influance to be idoit. its already in there genes

edit:> im not saying anything about the people that do mma but the fans and wannabes

Jim R April 4, 2010 at 16:39

At advanced levels, MMA practitioners are no worse than boxers or anybody else. In almost all cases, it is the wannabes posers, and ego trippers who behave in this manner.
A real MMA practitioner has nothing to prove to anybody on the street, they have no time for such foolishness, they are busy training.
None of the good MMAs will even be in that bar, and if they are, they are peaceful as anybody, you would never know of their skills.

the truth……..any dumbass thats got the type of personality to pick random fights, doesn’t have the patiene it takes to learn a martial art to proficiency. period.

sunbear171 April 4, 2010 at 17:43

Well I think of it like this. Learning martial arts makes you less apt to fight in the street because you have an outlet for your aggression. Also, most people fight out of fear at some level. They are afraid to look like a punk or that you’ll take their girl or whatever. Learning to fight well relieves that fear since you know that you are safe so you can walk away from most things with pride. Lastly boxing has been around forever and it never caused people to go all bug nutty I doubt MMA will. The fact is if you are a macho arrogant jerk you are a macho arrogant jerk, your amount of training or lack there of will not stop or start you to fighting.

zgoakland April 4, 2010 at 18:02

The only people that are going to start fights anywhere are the people who don’t study martial arts or participate in any type of MMA discipline.. they are the posers pretending to know something because they saw it on tv and try it on some other idiot that watched the same tv program.. Sorry we that are practicing MMA handle our business as just that business.

nwohioguy April 4, 2010 at 18:21

It already has…even the young kids are being this stupid.

Edit – I agree that problem truly exists with the wanna bees and posers more so than the professional MMA athletes…but there are a ton of amatuer MMA fighters around that act in this manner as well…

Lex April 4, 2010 at 18:38

Probably not anymore than Karate or Kung Fu added to it all. Egos and glory nuts existed since the dawn of time. No style is immune from it. I’m certain there’s some MMA guys out there somewhere who just want to pick fights and that’s the only reason they’re in MMA. But we’ve had to dismiss one or two fight pickers in our school, and it’s as traditional as it gets.

Al April 4, 2010 at 19:03

I don’t think so

MMA is “sports fighting” bar room bullies do not face off in an Octagon with gloves and a referee

In Street and bar fights it is usually cowards who sucker punch people or gang up with a few of their mates to fight you

Before the popularity of MMA there was boxing, professional wrestling and kung fu films blamed for street violence

DEAD MICHAEL VICK April 4, 2010 at 19:35

I HOPE MMA ALLOWS MORE PEOPLE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES AGAINST STUPID IDIOT ATTACKS +++ OR IT GETS MORE PEOPLE TO LEARN ABOUT MARTIAL ARTS AND OPENS PEOPLES MINDS
