I strongly believe. It is the fastest growing sport in the world. It’s becoming more and more organized and sanctioned, and most importantly it’s internationally popular.

well, the original mma was pankration, and pankration was in the olympics during the time of the ancient Greeks…

possibly…

Its a long way off, but I am sure that it will. Right now they are struggling to get it legalized in many states, provinces & countries around the world. Getting it legalized is the first step. After that, as the sport grows, it will make its way to olympics…

Then we will have REAL belt holders….. I wonder what would happen to the UFC contracts

Not as it exists today.

They may try to adapt the “Pankration” type of role, or Combat Sambo type. Something that can be codified, done safely, and still allow punches, kicks, takedowns, and such.

Olympic boxing has protective gear. As does Olympic TKD.

I think that there might be a modern pankration that will allow stand up, take downs and submissions, but will be done wearing protective gear with some serious rules.

However, I don’t foresee that anytime in the next 10 to 20 years, simply because it takes about 10 to 20 years to get a sport into the Olympics, and furthermore it takes a massive organization to do that, a world wide organization that can affect Olympic politics.

There is no standard governing body for MMA. Hell there isn’t even in all honesty a universal rule set from one nation to another.

So much would have to be in place for MMA to even be considered, standard rules, international governing body, widespread international interest in the sport.

These are just some of the things MMA is lacking, and will probably continue to lack for a long period of time.

I love the sport of MMA. However, I really hope it never makes it to the olympics.

Why? They would water it down to epic levels. They would probably have the contestants have head gear, leg pads, 3 minute rounds, no leg locks, ect. The smallest cut would result in a TKO. It would be bad.

i dont think fighters would have enough time to recover between fights…
